Meet Carrie Sonneborn & Melanie Smythe

A little about Carrie - she was raised in New Jersey and traveled to Australia as an exchange student.  That is where she and her future husband meet.  Fortunately for us, she now resides in Colorado.

Surprisingly, music is not Carrie’s profession but her avocation and passion.  She has her PhD in Engineering Policy and is retired from School of Mines as an adjunct professor.

Carrie began her music journey at a young age studying classical flute.  As her musical skills and knowledge grew, she discovered the Native American style of transverse flute.  This style inherently inspires improvisation and personal expression which is particularly fulfilling to her.

Carrie is associated with The Mile High Flute Circle.  If you would like more information about the group, upcoming performances or how you might join them check out their website at:  milehighflutecircle.com.

Melanie was born and raised in Denver and stills lives in the metro area.  Se retired from working 40 years as an Accountant 5 years ago and recently returned part time.

Melanie purchased her first Native American flute 9 years ago and has a collection of different flutes.  She has learned a lot about playing the flute and how the vibration of her breath and the music touches her soul.  This has been a journey of healing and making new friends and she is finding her voice along the way.  Melanie is looking forward to where this journey leads, knowing the possibilities are endless.
