Slow Down! The Scammer Wants You to Panic.

Scammers use urgency as a weapon.

  • “Your account will be closed today!”

  • “You have an unpaid bill.”

  • “Your package cannot be delivered.”

  • “You have been charged $799.”

  • “Your computer has been hacked—call us immediately!”

  • “You must act within 24 hours.”

  • “Your grandson is in trouble and needs money.”

STOP. DON'T CLICK. DON'T CALL. THINK.

Before doing anything, ask:

  1. Was I expecting this message?

  2. Is it creating a sense of panic or urgency?

  3. Can I verify it another way?

  4. Can I find the company's phone number myself instead of using the number in the message?

  5. What happens if I simply do nothing for a few minutes?

Never click on a link or call a phone number provided in a questionable email or text
