Slow Down! The Scammer Wants You to Panic.
Scammers use urgency as a weapon.
“Your account will be closed today!”
“You have an unpaid bill.”
“Your package cannot be delivered.”
“You have been charged $799.”
“Your computer has been hacked—call us immediately!”
“You must act within 24 hours.”
“Your grandson is in trouble and needs money.”
STOP. DON'T CLICK. DON'T CALL. THINK.
Before doing anything, ask:
Was I expecting this message?
Is it creating a sense of panic or urgency?
Can I verify it another way?
Can I find the company's phone number myself instead of using the number in the message?
What happens if I simply do nothing for a few minutes?
